Abstract
Piri Reis ünlü bir Türk denizcisi, gemi kaptanı, haritacı, kartograf ve aynı zamanda gözlemci ve araştırmacıdır. Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nun, askeri ve siyasi alanda en parlak dönemini yaşadığı 16. yüzyılda, yapmış olduğu eserler ve çizdiği haritalar, döneminin önde gelen coğrafi çalışmalarıdır. Piri Reis, 1513 yılında çizmiş olduğu dünya haritasında Afrika kıtasının batı kıyılarını göstermiş ve Bahriye isimli eserinde vermiş olduğu haritalarla da kıtanın kuzey kıyıları hakkında detaylı bilgi vermiştir. Bahriye’nin özellikle birinci bölümünde, kıtaya ait coğrafi bilgiler, Nil nehri ve kaynağı hakkında açıklamalar, Habeşistan ülkesi hakkında detaylar ve Ümit Burnu’nun keşfine yönelik tarihi bilgiler verilmiştir. Bu çalışmada Piri Reis’in eserlerindeki Afrika kıtası ile ilgili harita ve sağlam bilgiler derlenmiş ve kıtaya ait günümüz ansiklopedik bilgileri ile karşılaştırılmıştır.
