Investigation of Water Consumption Behaviors and Affecting Factors of Adults in Manisa

Öz

This study was carried out to determine the water consumption behaviours of adults in Manisa and the factors affecting them. A cross-sectional study was conducted in 2019 with individuals over 18 (n = 494) educated in Manisa city centre public education centres. Data were collected with the “Descriptive features form” and “Water Consumption Behavior Scale”. The mean age of the participants was 35.03 ± 11.27 years. Participants got an average of 58.72 ± 10.07 points from the total scale. Women, those over the age of 35, married, those with a high school or lower education level, those who always/mostly pay attention to water saving, those who state that it is very important to save water, and those who think that there will be no water scarcity or water stress in the future in our country scored significantly higher than the sum of some sub-dimensions and scales (p < 0.05). In addition, it was determined that some sub-dimension scores and scale total scores were lower for those who stated that their income was more than their expenses, for those who had no idea whether our country was currently experiencing water scarcity and water stress, and for those who had no idea about the situation of our country according to the water availability classification (p < 0.05). Considering the factors affecting the water consumption behaviours of adults, it can be recommended to plan awareness-raising education and research initiatives

Öz

Bu çalışma, Manisa’daki yetişkinlerin su tüketim davranışlarını ve etkileyen faktörleri belirlemek amacıyla yürütülmüştür. Kesitsel tipteki çalışma, Manisa il merkezindeki halk eğitim merkezlerinde eğitim alan 18 yaş üstü bireylerle (n = 494) 2019 yılında yürütülmüştür. Veriler, “Tanıtıcı özellikler formu” ve “Su Tüketim Davranışları Ölçeği” ile toplanmıştır. Katılımcıların yaş ortalaması 35,03 ± 11,27 yıldır. Katılımcılar, ölçek toplamından ortalama 58,72 ± 10,07 puan almışlardır. Kadınlar, 35 yaş üstü olanlar, evliler, lise ve altı öğrenim düzeyine sahip olanlar, su tasarrufuna her zaman/çoğunlukla dikkat edenler, su tasarrufu yapmanın çok önemli olduğunu belirtenler, ülkemizde gelecekte su kıtlığı ve su stresi yaşanmayacağını düşünenler bazı alt boyut ve ölçek toplamından anlamlı olarak daha yüksek puan almışlardır (p < 0,05). Bunun yanı sıra gelirinin giderinden çok olduğunu belirtenlerin, ülkemizde şu anda su kıtlığı ve su stresi yaşanıp yaşanmadığı ve ülkemizin su varlığı sınıflamasına göre durumu hakkında fikri olmayanların bazı alt boyut puanları ve ölçek toplam puanlarının daha düşük olduğu saptanmıştır (p < 0,05). Yetişkin bireylerin su tüketim davranışlarını etkileyen etmenler göz önüne alınarak farkındalık arttırıcı eğitim ve araştırma girişimlerinin planlanması önerilebilir.
