INVESTIGATION ON BEHAVIOR AND SEISMIC PERFORMANCE OF KAISER MOMENT CONNECTIONS

Abstract

KCM connections are not recognized in Türkiye and are not among the prequalified moment connections in the Turkish Building Earthquake Code 2018 (TBDY-2018). In this study, the behavior characteristics of KCM connections and their usability in earthquake zones are investigated. Numerical models designed using European steel profiles and steel grades are analyzed using the ANSYS program under monotonic and cyclic loading. After the numerical model is verified by comparing it with an experimental study found in previous studies, parametric studies are carried out. Furthermore, multiple linear regression analyzes are performed using parametric study results to obtain equations giving the basic characteristics of the connection. As a result, it is determined in detail how the behavior characteristics and seismic performance of KCM joints are affected due to various geometric changes.
