SWAGING/DIAMETER REDUCTION APPLICATIONS IN ALUMINUM ALLOY PIPE MATERIALS
Abstract
The interest in aluminum materials in the industry is increasing day by day, especially in order to achieve weight reduction targets, the basis for material changes is the transition from steel to alloyed aluminum materials. Alloyed aluminum also comes to the fore in terms of weight reduction in aviation applications that require high corrosion resistance. It contributes positively to the increase in the lifespan of the products by providing high strength. In this study, different swaging/diameter reduction processes were performed on Al2024 T3 pipe samples with different diameters between 12.7-28.6 mm and T0, T42 and cryogenic heat treatments were applied. Deformation levels of the swaging operation were measured according to the diameter variable parameter of the products. It has been observed that the deformation intensity increases and this increase is directly proportional to the tensile strength and hardness values. T0-T42 and cryogenic heat treatment applications were applied to T3 heat treated pipes. Mechanical strength, hardness and microstructure investigations were reported with these applications. The effects of swaging and heat treatment were compared with these data.
