In this study, ostracoda group of Tertiary sequences, cropping out around Güney-Buldan-Yenicekent-
Babadağ-Kale (Denizli, SW Anatolia), have been investigated. Paleogene and Neogene units crop out the study
area. The Mesozoic basement, which is made up of schist, quartzite schist and reddish metaconglomerates, is
unconformably overlain by Oligocene age Bayıralan Formation comprising siltstone-sandstone claystone partly
including thick coaly layers. This unit is characterized with the following ostracoda genus and species;
Cytheromorpha zinndorfi (Lienenklaus), Nucleolina multicostata (Deltel), Cladorocythere apostolescui (Margerie),
C. hantonensis Keen, Hemicyprideis montosa (Jones and Sherborn), H. elongata Keen, H. helvetica (Lienenklaus),
Neocyprideis apostolescui (Keij), N. williamsoniana (Bosquet), Leptocythere sp.1, Leptocythere sp.2,
Callistocythere vittata Sönmez-Gökçen, Cyamocytheridea punctatella (Bosquet), Candona (Pseudocandona) fertilis
Triebel, Xestoleberis subglobosa (Bosquet). This fauna indicate that the unit has to be deposited in a lagoon and
littoral environments.
Early Miocene (Burdigalian) aged Yenidere and Kale formations unconformably cover the Oligocene sediments to
the southeast of the investigated area and include the following shallow marine ostracoda species; Bairdia
subdeltoidea (Muenster), Neonesidea corpulenta (Mueller), Neomonoceratina helvetica Oertli, Krithe papillosa
(Bosquet), Ruggieria dorukae (Bassiouni), R. tetraptera (Sequenza), Tenedocythere prava (Baird), T. salebrosa
Uliczny, Pokornyella deformis minor (Moyes), Hermanites haidingeri minor Ruggieri, Celtia quadridentata
(Baird), Loxoconcha cristatissima Ruggieri, Loxocorniculum quadricornis (Ruggieri), Paracypris polita Sars.
Late Miocene age Sekköy Formation, representing lacustrine-lagoon environment conditions are units
unconformably on early Miocene sediments. Some ostracod associations such as Cyprideis torosa (Jones), C.
mehesi Sissingh, Loxoconcha agilis Ruggieri, Darwinula stevensoni (Brady and Robertson), Ilyocypris gibba
(Ramdohr), Candona (Caspiolla) lobata (Zalanyi), C. (Caspiolla) fastigata Freels, Candona namanganica
(Snejder), C. decimai Freels, C. candida (Müller), C. elongata (Svejer), C. devexa Kaufmann, C. xanthica Freels, C.
parallela pannonica Zalanyi, Candona sp., Heterocypris salina, Eucypris sp. have been defined marl in the pale
cream colour weathered loose cemented claystone sediments of the formation.
The effects of the tectonic regime are clearly observed on the fauna that was defined in the Oligocene sediments.
The ostracoda group investigated in this study has been correlated with the region, NW Europe, and Paris
Oligocene sequences and also with the studies done particularly late Tertiary limnic ostracodes of studies in Europe
and Turkiye.
