DESIGN OPTIMIZATION OF A UAV USING THE TAGUCHI METHOD AND CONTROL IMPROVEMENT SUPPORTED BY THE CUCKOO ALGORITHM

Öz

In this study, three different parameters were selected for the optimization of the design parameters of a fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicle, and three different values were determined for each. 9 situations consisting of these parameters were obtained using the Taguchi method in Minitab software. These design scenarios were analysed with both XFLR5 and OpenVSP software in terms of aerodynamic performance. Then, the settling times for each design were determined, and the best aircraft design was determined using the Taguchi method to make comparisons between designs. In addition to the Cuckoo optimization for the selected design, analyses were also carried out with the default value and the Ziegler-Nichols method. As a result of the analysis, it was decided that cuckoo optimization was the best, and PID controller parameters were determined. To evaluate the controller performance, four different error criteria were taken into account: ISE, IAE, ITAE, and MSE. As a result of the analyses carried out on error criteria, the most appropriate result in terms of improving controller performance was obtained with the ITAE error criterion.
